Abstract:

The study investigate the therapeutic potential of montelukast as an adjunctive treatment for pediatric tonsillitis condition commonly managed with antibiotics and antipyretics. Concerns about antibiotic resistances have prompted exploration of alternative therapies. This randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluated the efficacy safety and tolerability of montelukast in reducing symptoms and shortening recovery time in children aged 3-12 year. Total of 100 participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group receiving montelukast plus standard treatment or control group receiving standard treatment alone. Clinical assessments included symptom severity disease duration, and parental satisfaction.
Results demonstrated significant improvements in the montelukast group including faster recovery (Average of 5 days vs. 7 days) reduced fever and sore throat duration and higher parental satisfaction. Adverse effects were minimal and comparable between groups. These findings suggest that montelukast may serve as a valuable complementary therapy for pediatric tonsillitis potentially reducing reliance on antibiotics while ensuring faster recovery.
